White Oak State Bank Angel Tree

White Oak State Bank has their Angel Tree ready for angels to be adopted. These are White Oak families. The lobby is open from 9 am – 5 pm.  Angel gifts need to be taken to the bank by Wednesday, December 12th.

Let’s work together as a community to make this a Merry Christmas for all.

Allergy Awareness

One of our primary goals at White Oak Elementary is to make sure that our students are safe at school. This year, we have several students that are severely allergic to peanuts. Our school is not a “peanut free” zone, but we are asking for your help. If your child brings a lunch from home and you are able to send items that are free of peanuts and/or peanut oil, we would greatly appreciate it.

For more information on peanut allergies, please take the time to read the Facts and Symptoms. Let’s keep all of our students safe. Thank you for always being supportive of our school.

Professional Learning Community Kicks Off

The staff of White Oak ISD was addressed by several of its peers on Thursday, May 31st, to kick off two important phases of collaborative learning, Project Based Learning and Professional Learning Community.  Teachers from each campus were given opportunities to share the higher level thinking involved in PBL and also to showcase over 90+ Web 2.0 tools and apps.  It was impressive to see the level of instruction that our students receive from our White Oak ISD teachers. Equally impressive was the development of problem-solving skills and collaboration that our students, from primary through high school, demonstrated through “voice and choice” presentations

Resources for the Web2.0 tools and apps are linked to the image above. Several of the resources are already posted on the new PLC Blog.

Happy Retirement to Mrs. Z

The 2012-2013 school year will begin at White Oak Intermediate without the 70 combined years of teaching experience of two truly great staff members.

Mrs. Carol Zoutendam, fourth grade teacher, has announced her retirement this year. She has been an iconic member of our staff for several years and has been an educator for 37 years.  Her love for her students has been reciprocated by their love for her each and every year. Her contribution to shaping of the lives of young Roughnecks will be sorely missed on our campus.

We love you and wish you the happiest of retirements, Mrs. Z.
