Region 7 ESC Provides STAAR Videos

REGION 7 ESC STAAR CONTENT VIDEOS

Region 7 staff are aware the STAAR assessment program will require many changes in curriculum and instruction to ensure students’ success on the new assessment. It is critical all teachers and administrators have an understanding of STAAR in order to make these changes.

Our staff created video presentations to provide educators with vital information concerning the new STAAR assessment program.

There are ten STAAR videos in this series; each contains content and grade-span specific information.
High School and Middle School each have four videos:

  • Mathematic
  • ELA
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Grades 4 and 5 have one video addressing Mathematics, Science, and ELA.

Third grade has one video addressing ELA and mathematics.

These STAAR video presentations include:

  • Readiness and supporting standards
  • Graduation requirements
  • STAAR 2013 accountability requirements
  • STAAR blueprints and schematics
  • Emphasis on specific content and grade level areas

Each 45 minute video is broken into chapters making it appropriate to be used during staff meetings, conference periods, department meetings, etc. These videos were designed to provide information to facilitate discussions and further investigations of curriculum and instruction. Region 7 Core Curriculum Department has developed in-depth follow-up trainings focusing on the collaboration, communication and differentiation required to meet the depth and rigor of the new STAAR assessment. These new trainings will be offered fall of 2011.

Simply Powerful

fb school page

At our EIC meeting in June, it was noted in our plan for White Oak ISD to have a  District Facebook page. Scott Floyd immediately set this up for us and allowed for campuses to create their own Facebook pages to enhance school, parent, and community communication.  For those of you who are not already aware, the White Oak Primary and White Oak Intermediate Schools have taken the steps toward attaining that goal. In addition, some of our staff members have also become acutely aware of the frequency and convenience of a parent’s and/or student’s ability to check a Facebook status from any Smartphone, iPod, or iPad, and have created their own classroom Facebook page to share specific information and activities pertinent to only that small group of students. You will find the links to each of these Facebook pages on our White Oak Elementary Blog by clicking on the Primary Staff Blogs or Intermediate Staff Blogs. The White Oak Primary and White Oak Intermediate links are located right underneath the principals’ pictures on the front page of the blog.

By simply visiting any of these Facebook pages and clicking on “Like”,  ALL status updates from that particular page will automatically appear on that staff member’s, parent’s, or student’s page every time they login to Facebook. Take a look around you the next time you are in a restaurant, at a ballgame, in a grocery store, or anywhere, you will see someone checking their Facebook page.

It’s that simple, and YES, it’s that powerful!
