The White Oak Education Foundation has done it again! With the help from foundation members, administrators (past and present), teachers (past and present), and parents, there was a safe and good time had by all Saturday night at Lone Star Speedway. Thank you, White Oak Education Foundation, for all the hours of planning and working you did to make this event possible. Thank you, administrators, for leading by example. Thank you, teachers, for loving your students to the point of taking your “off” time to support the foundation in raising money to be used in your classrooms. Thank you, parents, for putting hands and feet to your commitment to partnering with the school to ensure the success of every student at White Oak ISD!

Coins for Cancer Campaign

In August, Dinah Morgan, a third grade teacher on our campus, was diagnosed with cancer. She has already undergone two surgeries and is working with her doctors to make plans for the next steps. White Oak Elementary would like to support this family by having a “Coins for Cancer” Campaign. The campaign will begin Monday and run the entire week of September 23-27. Students may bring any spare change, or any amount of donations, during the designated week. Each day the money will be collected in each classroom and stored in the office vault. On Friday, the funds will be counted and we will post the total amount collected for this family.

While we are collecting coins, students will be encouraged to follow a daily theme, much like the upcoming “Red Ribbon Week”. Daily themes are:

  • Monday – Crazy Socks Day – Students may wear crazy socks.
  • Tuesday – Hat Day – Students may wear hats to school.
  • Wednesday – Crazy Hair Day – Student may wear their hair in a crazy fashion.
  • Thursday – Rock Out Cancer Day – Students may wear Rock N’ Roll themed clothes. (These must remain in compliance with the Dress Code.)
  • Friday – School Spirit Day – Students may paint their faces with White Oak colors.

This campaign and/or the daily themed activities are not mandatory. If you are not able to donate, please keep this family in your thoughts.

Morning Announcements – A Big Hit!

Every morning, Nina Peery and her 5th grade production crew meet to film Morning Announcements.  Seldom do we take the time to stop and thank them for providing this service to our campus. School news, cafeteria menus, weather, and extracurricular student activities are among the few pieces of information shared daily.  Recently we received an email from elementary music teacher, Alisha Kimbley. We’d like to share her comment and encourage the rest of our readers to click on the Podcast Link daily to watch the Morning Announcements.

“Dear Nina-
I have been getting to see the announcements that Skyla is doing via YouTube! It is great! The format is wonderful, the kids are successful in presenting the information, brain gym in there, the cute jokes & high 5’s giving it a personal kid fun touch, etc etc!!! O and today the little neck cheer…that is brilliant to tie that in! Bravo! It not only unites the school and gives leadership for 5th graders but it is screaming fine arts and technology TEKS! I love it! I miss you guys! -Alisha (Kimbley)”
